About Rebecca Vnuk

Hi! I'm Rebecca Vnuk, author of 3 Reader's Advisory nonfiction titles: Read On...Women's Fiction (Libraries Unlimited, 2009); Women's Fiction Authors: A Research Guide (LU, 2009); Women's Fiction: A Guide to Popular Reading Interests (LU, 2013, co-authored by Nanette Donohue); as well as the best-selling The Weeding Handbook: A Shelf-by-Shelf Guide (ALA Editions, 2015).  (whoo-hoo, I'm a best seller in library land, at least!)

I'm the Editor in Chief of IndiePicks Magazine, a review publication from Patomi Media Group working with small presses and self-published author imprints. I was formerly the Editor for Collection Management and Library Outreach for Booklist, and I have 12 years of experience in public libraries (learn more about me on LinkedIn!). I also teach the online semester of Reader's Advisory for the College of DuPage's LTA programI was named LJ's Fiction Reviewer of the Year in 2008, and I am also the 2010 winner of the Public Library Association's Allie Beth Martin award, for my "unwavering dedication to books of any cover." In 2010 I was named a Library Journal "Mover and Shaker".

As an accomplished public speaker, I've done workshops and presentations on a number of library topics. (see more under the "Portfolio" tab!) With expertise in all aspects of collection management, extensive experience in weeding collections of all sizes, a passion for staff training, and years of annotating and book reviewing under my belt, I may be a perfect choice to speak at your library’s next training or in-service day. Feel free to shoot me an email for more information, to discuss a consulting project, or schedule a workshop or program.

Want to listen to me? I was interviewed for the Circulating Ideas librarian podcast in November 2014. It's a bit long, but there is some good RA stuff near the end!

For a shorter, updated interview, I was featured once again in November 2017: https://circulatingideas.com/2017/11/14/121-rebecca-vnuk/
